So sorry to be so late with this. I promise I'll have the rest up within a few days. I can only cite the move and general craziness.
TITLE: River
RATING: G
QUESTION: How did you survive the toughest battle of your life?
CHARACTER: Simon
It's so strange to think of me even being in a battle. I wasn't...wasn't brought up to this life, not that I imagine anyone's precisely brought up to be a criminal, except perhaps Jayne. I suppose most people would say that the "toughest" battle of my life was with the Reavers, and the simple answer is that I only survived because River saved me.
And that was what all the other battles were fought for. River, my perfect, beautiful, impertinent, and evil sister. She says I gave up everything I had for her, and it's true, but it's not. I gave up everything I had, but I didn't stay dispossessed. I can only think that somehow it was River who led me to this ship, to the only place where we could have found home. River always knew what was right, even before the Academy. She would open a box of chocolates and her hand would always land on her favorite, every time. She always knew.
So the answer still comes back to River, as perhaps all my answers always will. I survive every battle—I fight every battle—because I have my sister there beside me.
