Title: One thing

Challenge: Round 2, Challenge 3: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?

The only acceptable change when you’re married is that which is instigated by the woman – now don't forget it. She was none too slow to get rid of my ‘lip ferret’. I thought I just said ‘I do’ but apparently she heard ‘I do agree to be clean shaven for the rest of my naturally born life’. Came as a surprise to me, I thought I was the perfect man. She told me I was beautiful! Woman – they’re so shifty.
Even so, if I could I think there would be one thing I would change – you know it can be hard when your wife is capable of gutting you with the sharp edge of her fingernail? You grow up thinking that you’re gonna be the strong one in your future relationships, and I am in some ways, but you get into situations when you wonder if you’re capable of doing a tenth of what she does.
If I could make myself just a little bit braver – you know – once in awhile protecting her wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

See now that’s an unfair question for a blissfully married man like me. If I ever changed anything about myself it’s liable to be the very thing my beautiful man-killing wife loves about me. I come home with a new haircut and that’s it – we’re done – she married me for the way the sun glints on those long pieces of hair at the top – or the feel of it – now it’s gone – our relationship is done. Divorce is frowned upon you know. Especially when you live on the same damn spaceship – things can get a mite crowded when you’re avoiding someone around here.

I like it! I love the last line. Interestingly enough, the original script for the BDM has him saving her from a Reaver. Go Wash!
