TITLE: Her Goodness

QUESTION: Do you believe in true love? Have you ever felt it?
CHARACTER: Simon



Has any man ever loved a woman as much as I love River? But I know, I know. You'll say you're talking about romantic love, and I know that it's quite different, or meant to be, anyway.

So Kaylee, then. I don't know. I know that...being on the ship with her, it was like sitting, looking at a platter of sweet pastries on the table and not daring to touch it, even though there was no reason not to. I can't honestly imagine anyone wanting anything more than what Kaylee has to offer, all of her sweetness and love and honesty.

But I don't know that I have any of those things myself, except perhaps love, and I still don't know if pretty, sweet Kaylee is there for me. I know she wants to be, I know she wants to be mine, but until I know, until I can see in myself anything to match her goodness...then the only answer that you're going to get is that I love River very, very much.

O, that is so Simon! He just cannot get past his deep love of River, his need to be there for her no matter what. Good brother to River, but bad for any type of real relationship. Silly Simon.

Thank you! I think in this case, Simon's more using his love for River as a mask to hide his feelings.

I'm a Simon/Kaylee shipper, but I can really see this. In fact, when I re-read it, I think it explains a lot about why he didn't go for her until after the BDM. Very well-written!

Hee. I like Simon/Kaylee too, even though I'm not sure at all that it'll work out.
