Title: Preferable
Author: woodsong_1978
Character: Simon Tam
Rating: G
Question: #1) Describe your greatest childhood fears or nightmares
Disclaimer: I have no rights over the character or person of Simon Tam. More's the pity.
Author's Notes: Apologies for the lateness of all of these. Simon was pondering. He thinks too much.
Comments: Craved. Con-crit always welcome.
Childhood fears. They're so similar, don't you find? So repetitive. Every adult you find can tell you the stories of the monster under the bed, the thieves lurking in dark alleys, the Reavers who could descend at any time from the campfire stories, savages from beyond civilization.
I remember stories of the savage Independents, hardly better than Reavers, primitive men who lacked the capacity to understand the benefits of Unification. Of course, I know now that they were wildly exaggerated. Mostly. Every now and again the captain does or says something that makes me wonder…No. It didn't stop the monstrous Independents invading my nightmares.
Childhood nightmares…so innocent. When you actually find out some of the possibilities the waking world can hold…I think I preferred the nightmares.
